The HK Prize 2024
The Hong Kong Prize is an annual award presented to Hong Kong-based artists who explore human experience through unrestricted mediums in their works, without regard to medium. This prize aims to support artists of different backgrounds in communicating their unique perspectives on diversity, equity and inclusion through art – from those with self-taught approaches or recent graduates beginning their artistic careers to professionals. In 2024 alone 23 artists from various parts of the city submitted work with distinct perspectives on what it means to be human in an interconnected world.
This prize comprises of a cash award of HK$100,000 as well as exhibition opportunities at Goethe Gallery and Black Box Studio. The selection process is transparent and objective with an independent review procedure in place for selections. Furthermore, this prize has strong connections with local communities, with representatives from Hong Kong government and enterprises acting as officiating guests at awards ceremonies.
BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is committed to conducting the review process in an impartial, professional, scientifically rigorous way. Its operation is guided by its Rules of Procedure; an independent review secretariat has also been set up. Review panels comprise distinguished experts in various fields who oversee its conduct.
HK Prize offers one of the biggest payouts for any Olympic event, with medallists taking home up to 12m for gold, 6m for silver and 3m for bronze respectively. Athletes finishing outside of the top three but in the top eight will still receive cash incentives such as 750,000 Hong Kong Dollars in fourth place or 375,000 Hong Kong Dollars from fifth to eighth. Top eight athletes competing in team events will also be entitled to receive bonuses worth an additional 3 million Hong Kong Dollars each.
Hong Kong epeeist Vivian Kong Man-wai and foilist Cheung Ka-long could both win their inaugural Olympic medals; Singapore kitesurfer Maximilian Maeder stands a chance of becoming the country’s inaugural gold medal winner, currently sitting in second in the International Series standings with a top four finish in guaranteed entry into LIV Golf Promotions event next year.
Alongside their monetary award, winners of awards are also invited to various academic activities and public talks hosted by sponsors to share their achievements and insights with a wider audience. They can network with leading scientists from around the world and expand their scientific networks further. Winners will have an opportunity to work alongside sponsoring organizations on future joint research projects and technological development efforts.
