Sidney pools hold a special place in the hearts of residents. Offering swimming without the risk of riptides and other elements found at beaches, Sidney pools provide safe alternatives for elderly or disabled swimmers who may feel more at home swimming there than regular ocean pools. They’re also great options for fitness swimmers and winter swim clubs who use heated versions during colder months.

Public pools are essential components of community health and wellbeing infrastructure. Yet rapid urban development means many are finding it increasingly challenging to locate suitable public swimming spots nearby; as a result, some must pack picnics before waiting in line at overcrowded pools before traveling long distances for an ideal environment for swimming. Therefore, an all-encompassing plan to improve public pool quality should be considered an absolute necessity.

Simply stated, the aim of this plan is to upgrade 500 community pools over the coming decade. Funding will come from increasing land rates paid by property owners and will be overseen by a new body called Sydney Pools Authority which will work closely with government agencies and local councils to identify funding priorities and oversee progress of this project.

Proposals will be submitted to the federal government before 2022 for implementation, in hopes that this plan will increase attendance at public lap swimming pools while providing safe, clean, and well-maintained environments for residents of Sydney nsw to enjoy swimming.

To fund its plan, the City of Sydney is considering several funding solutions including levying all council properties, an increased property tax surcharge and increasing pool permit fees. Furthermore, local stakeholders will be given an opportunity to provide input regarding these measures.

The City is currently reviewing all proposals and will announce its winner by October, including their budget and timeframes for work to be done by this plan. Construction on new facilities should then start immediately with phase one scheduled to open by 2022.
