What is the Hongkong Prize?
The Hongkong Prize is one of Asia’s premier honors, awarded each year to an individual who has made notable contributions in arts and sciences. Recipients receive both cash prize and other benefits. The competition is open to residents of both mainland China and Southeast Asia; all applicants should read all rules and regulations carefully in order to ensure an uncomplicated application process.
The Hong Kong Prize was created in 1996 to commemorate and promote Hong Kong’s rich cultural history, encouraging young people to study it further. Furthermore, it promotes student responsibility and global citizenship; furthermore supporting scientific and technological advancement within Hong Kong itself.
This year’s Hong Kong Prize nominations include activists fighting for freedom and democracy – some have even been arrested or face lengthy prison sentences – as well as those working towards improving social justice or community service, proving that human resilience can triumph even under duress. Other nominees have achieved remarkable scientific feats, such as creating shelter for homeless adults at nonprofit organization or an engineering professor from Polytechnic University who developed liquid biopsy technology which allows doctors to detect cancer faster.
The Hong Kong Prize provides scholars in early careers a platform to display their work and achievements, from awarding the best manuscript of humanities scholars to supporting publication of their works in both English and Chinese. Additionally, this year the First Book Prize has been revised so researchers who have yet to publish can submit manuscripts to compete.
This competition provides students with an ideal way to both develop their writing skills while exploring Hong Kong and Asian cultures, meet people, and build connections. Since it is highly competitive, those hoping to participate should study hard and participate in extracurricular activities in order to increase their odds of victory at an annual ceremony featuring cash prizes, travel expenses, and other perks; those interested should visit their official website and speak with one of their representatives for more information.
