Fiction award recipients in the fiction category included Thea Lim’s debut work, an updated retelling of Wu Song Shui historical romance and Singaporean author Tan Wei Min’s tetralogy; in non-fiction awards went to Amir Afifi’s biography of former Indonesian president Sukarno called The Untold Stories of Malaysia’s Founding Father as well as an investigative report from Tan Aik Beng on an officer accused of corruption during the 1970s and 80s, called Police Practices in an Age of Intolerance.
Singapore Media Festival also celebrated excellence in film and television drama with awards in these categories: best film drama; and television drama (finalist).
On 23 November 2017 the awards ceremony was hosted at LASALLE Theatre and winners were revealed by Minister of Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu and Actor and TV Presenter Jason Scott Lee. There were 16 awards distributed at this ceremony with some notable citations going to The Greatest Love by director Eric Khoo, The Big Bad Swim by scriptwriter Tan Wei Min and Johor Darul Eksekutif by director Mohd Isa Syukri winning best Feature Film award – for more details please check organiser’s website or watch live stream here
