Roulette is an unforgiving game of chance that requires strategy in order to improve chances of victory. Although its rules may appear straightforward, some players believe using an effective plan can increase odds. There are various systems for playing the game, some easily understandable while others more complicated; before beginning your roulette adventure always set a budget and remain informed on different bet types and their associated payouts.
Roulette’s basic concept is straightforward: A croupier spins a wheel with 36 numbers plus zero and, on American tables, an additional double-zero (00) pocket, while players place chips on the table which correspond with which pockets a spinning ball may land after it stops; bettors place chips that correspond with any possible pockets where their ball may land after stopping spinning; one small ball drops into one of these compartments – if your bet landed there successfully then that number becomes your winner.
Not all bets on individual numbers involve betting solely on them – in addition to bets based on groups, colors or whether odd/even is chosen – there are also others which offer slightly greater returns but with significant house edges in terms of return on investment.
Dozens Bet (douzaine in French), is an attractive roulette bet suitable for newcomers as its payout ratio of 2-1 makes this bet an attractive proposition with excellent chances of success and relatively high returns.
Outside Bets are those which cover a larger section of the layout and offer lower payout percentages, like Line Bet or Six Number Bet (known in French as sixain). These bets cross between two rows of numbers and offer three distinct sets of bets: low red, high red and the first or last 18 numbers on the table with 5-1 payout odds – providing safer play than Inside bets.
Some players attempt to ‘game the system’ by studying past results of published wheels, then placing their bets accordingly. Unfortunately, this strategy is doomed for failure: odds of any given number hitting are independent of its previous appearance on published wheels; so even if it occurs multiple times consecutively it doesn’t mean it is a good bet; rather it simply increases due to more opportunities coming its way on each new spin of the wheel.
